About the St Clair Travel & Tourism Bureau
The St. Clair Travel & Tourism Office was established in January 2000 with Founding members: Robert Swickard, Diana Swickard, Dale Diddle, Janet Kater, and Bert Fisher to promote tourism in our area. This group wanted to create an event to draw visitors to St. Clair Township and that vision resulted in the creation of the Annual Fireworks Display in Calcutta in 2002. This event has since grown into a two (2) day event that draws approximately 12,000 to 14,000 visitors from Ohio, Pennsylvania, and West Virginia. The Fireworks are synchronized to music played on Froggy 104.3FM and the music is broadcast at the fireworks.
The Tourism Office is fully funded by an Excise Lodging Tax made possible by Amerihost in Calcutta. An Office was opened in the St. Clair Township Administration Building in March of 2005 and Lori Kline was named as Executive Director. The current Board includes Dale Diddle, President; Paul Metrovich, Vice President; Diana Swickard, Treasurer; Lori Kline, Secretary; and two (2) at Large Directors, Tom Snow and Mike Sigler.
The Tourism bureau's goal in the beginning was to fund the Annual Fireworks Event with the help of local businesses. We have grown since then. We now sponsor 5K Runs at Beaver Creek State Park and have a Holiday "Best Decorated Home" Contest. We have worked with the Beaver Creek Wildlife Education Center to help promote the great work they do and we assist with "Light up Night" at Ogilvie's Square on SR 170. We have started a Beautification Project that consists of building planting areas around the seven (7) Welcome to St. Clair Township Signs plus we are creating a Visitors Guide to be distributed all over the State of Ohio.
A future project this board is very excited about is the new Calcutta Community Park that the Calcutta Rotary is building. We have many events planned for the new park. We envision a Christmas Light up Night with local singing groups and a local Farmers Market with a Fall Festival. Entertainment groups there on the weekends, similar to what they do at the Broadway Warf, will be a wonderful addition to our growing community. Therer are many more possibilities for its use.
To help us grow we joined the Ohio Association of Convention and Visitors Bureaus in 2006. (OACVB) Being a member of this group has given us the opportunity to network with 68 other County Tourism and Visitor and Convention Bureaus. This organization has opened the door to us for Co-Op funding for marketing and advertising, along with letting us advertise our Township in other areas of the state. They also have a lobbyist who spends several days a month visiting with lawmakers to protect the only source of funding we have - the excise lodging tax.
Our office is open Monday through Friday from 1:00pm until 5:00pm. Stop by and see us.
